We have a new and exciting opportunity for a dedicated and culturally aware individual to take on the role of Forest Keeper at the Kwiakah Centre of Excellence in the traditional territory of the Kwiakah First Nation in Phillips Arm, B.C.

What is the role of the Forest Keeper:

As a Forest Keeper, you will work collaboratively within a team whose focus will be rooted in regenerative forestry and increasing the Kwiakah First Nation (KFN) presences in the land, conducting surveys, research, monitoring and collecting data on the ecological health within the territory.

Our ideal Forest Keeper candidate brings:

  • High School diploma and 3 years of general work experience required.
  • Post-secondary training and or equivalent work experience in Forestry is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Knowledge of Kwiakah First Nation territory and values.
  • Familiarity with indigenous laws as well as federal and provincial rules and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Word, Excel, email and using handheld devices.
  • Experience working in an online environment.
  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency and Radio Operators Certificates are required.
  • Marine Emergency Certificate.
  • Wilderness First Aid.

  • Ability to work irregular work hours, including overnight and in isolated conditions.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires working extensively in isolated conditions within the territory, including in forest, marine and lake environments.
  • Proficiency in outdoor environments with the necessary first aid and safety training to keep yourself and others safe on the job.
  • Applicants must be physically fit to carry out the duties.
