We are searching for a detail-oriented Electrical Project Engineer in Victoria, BC, on behalf of our client Urban Solar, a leading manufacturer of standalone solar energy systems for the public transportation industry in North America. What You’ll Be Doing:

As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and integrating solar-powered electrical systems that enhance transit stops and shelters by powering real-time signage, LED lighting, and other digital amenities. You’ll be part of a cross-functional development team, working on both custom and existing transit infrastructure to ensure the seamless integration of standalone solar energy solutions.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design and document solar-powered electrical systems for transit projects
  • Rapidly prototype and test new hardware solutions
  • Validate and integrate third-party electrical components into existing systems
  • Create and maintain wiring schematics & technical documentation
  • Collaborate across departments and provide technical mentorship

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field from a program accredited by a Washington Accord signatory or an equivalent internationally recognized accreditation body
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design/engineering
  • Strong understanding of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar electrical CAD software for designing schematics
  • Experience with load calculations, energy modeling, and system sizing
  • Hands-on experience with wiring, cable harness assembly, and electrical testing
  • Ability to develop and execute testing and validation plans
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Team player who enjoys collaboration and knowledge-sharing
  • Adaptable and motivated, thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments

Skills That Make You Stand Out:

  • Experience with standalone solar energy systems & battery management (MPPT, PWM controllers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of LED lighting system design & LED driver specification
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, RS-485, etc.) for system integration
  • Experience with AC/DC power distribution, grounding, and protection systems (CEC & NEC standards)
  • Understanding safety and compliance standards (UL, ETL, CE, FCC)
  • Professional designation in Engineering (P. Eng, = bonus points!)
  • Project management experience in a customer-facing role (PMP, or CAPM is a plus!)
  • Firmware/hardware (PCB) development or experience with cross-functional design processes
