Urban Grocer, Voted Victoria’s Top Choice Grocery Retailer of 2025, is looking for a creative, energetic, and business-minded Deli Manager who is ready to lead, innovate, and make a real impact.

The Deli Manager role is a hands-on opportunity to build something special and lead a small team! You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the deli and meat department, including staffing, production, merchandising, and customer service. We are looking for someone with vision. Do you get excited about introducing quick meals that reflect today’s food trends (healthy proteins, hearty greens) and convenient meal solutions that inspire customers? With equipment like an in-store oven and a strong foundation of roasted chicken, wraps, and salads, there is ample room for you to innovate.

Your day as Deli Manager may include:

Leadership and Staff Development:

  • Hire, train, schedule, and manage deli staff, fostering a positive and motivated team culture focused on food, quality, and service.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to support growth and performance, and lead by example, ensuring professionalism, engagement, and accountability.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.

Operations and Financial Accountability:

  • Maintain proper inventory levels and accurate ordering and monitor and control costs, waste, and shrink.
  • Meet departmental sales targets and manage labour budgets.
  • Ensure health, food safety, and cleanliness standards are consistently met.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance of equipment.

Optional (if applicable):

  • Oversee the meat department if it aligns with the candidate’s skills and interest (no butchery involved).

Are you the Deli Manager we are seeking?

  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a deli, café, or foodservice department
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Passion for food trends, health-conscious offerings, and the customer experience
  • Organized and business-minded with a knack for spotting what will sell
  • Experience with ordering, scheduling, and inventory systems
  • Ability to work hands-on and lead a busy team in a fast-paced environment
